I believe DREAMers/DACA Recipients Should be Defended! What do you think?

Hi everyone,

Here are some thoughts I have. I wonder what you think?

Defend Dreamers?

1. Yes, defend the cause of undocumented young people enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme. DACA was started by former US President Barack Obama and his administration in 2012. Yes, defend DACA recipients who are seeking a pathway to US citizenship. Stand for those who live terrified of being removed from the country they so dearly love (America/the US/often the only home they have ever known). Defend the opportunity for the young people to be heard, not as criminals but as individuals who have lived in the US since childhood. Defend the reality that not all DACA recipients arrived in the US 'undocumented'. Yes, defend them according to US Law.

2. DREAMers are too often accused of being illegal immigrants. Yet, they were children (many were babies) when they entered the US. Why should they stand accused of a crime they should not be held accountable for? Why should a baby be found 'guilty' and then grow up and still be called guilty? Guilty of what?

3. US Law should consider the individual context of every DREAMer. That is how the Law can be 'just' and not simply harsh/tyrannical, prejudicial or biased.

4. America, the US, is a beautiful country. America is a land in which people from all over the world live. It is a place where even the President has family from different countries. It is a world in which immigrants live. It is a place where native Americans call home amongst those who also share the land. That is America.

5. Do people have the right to tell other people to 'get out' of the US, when the former generations of most were granted opportunities to live there?

6. According to US Law, the pathway towards citizenship must be lawful. DREAMers have apparently lived in the country longer than immigrants who obtain green cards. So, the undocumented young people have live in the US for at least 10 years. Are they not therefore quasi-citizens?

7. Are individuals rendering false judgement by adding that the undocumented young people should leave the US? Are the individuals making subjective judgements? Are their judgements based on what they deem to be patriotic thoughts and feelings?

8. How can DREAMers be judged based upon the wants and desires of others, e.g. the desire to have the America one wants - without DREAMers?

8. Does US Law give way to the voice of the nation? If so, are DREAMers all of a sudden invisible in the eyes of US Law?

9. If an American child has a dad who is undocumented, who married her mum (an American by birth), should the dad be deported to the country of his birth?

I wonder what you all think?
